Katrina: Listen Denzel I'm at Sixth Form now, I can't talk right now. Why you getting angry for? Hello?! Argh.
Katrina Walks off.

The next scene is Katrina by the lockers very stressed and Marcus intervenes and creates conversation.
Marcus: You alright? You look pretty stressed.
Katrina: Erm Sorry do I know you?
Marcus: Whoa, My bad. My name is Marcus and is that the type of attitude you give to people you don't know?
Katrina: Oh Sorry. I am just stressed and my head is all over the place.
Marcus: Right I See. Well...
Katrina: Katrina
Marcus: Well Katrina, you wanna meet me after school and we can talk all about it?
Katrina: Yeah alright.
Marcus: Alright meet me over there at 3.20. I'll see you later.
Katrina: See you later

The shot then switches to a close up shot of Katrina on the phone.
Katrina: Yeah I think I found him. Yeah I'll bring him to you after school. Yeah alright, ok bye.

Study Room Scene with Marcus and Friend.
Friend: So what's happening with you and dem-man?
Marcus: (Sighs) I don't know una, things looked like they've died down at the moment, but whatever happens now happens. But you see the new girl though?
Friend: Who Katrina ? What is that you yeah?
Marcus: Yeah course donny Marcus, I'm Joking. But yeah man I'm meeting her after school.
Friend: Nah but be careful.
Marcus: Yeah Man, Safe.

-BLACKOUT FOR 2 SECOND FOR TIME LAPSE-

Over the shoulder shot over Denzel with the camera viewpoint facing towards the phone looking at the time. Then it switches to a long shot of Denzel walking out. The shot switches to a close up shot on Katrina's face and she says....
Katrina: You took your time.
Shot/Reverse on Marcus: Definately need to sort out your attitude.
Shot/Reverse on Katrina: Yeah yeah whatever. So what, do you wanna come back to mine?
Shot/Reverse on Marcus: Ahh, alright let's go.

Over the past month, me and my group began shooting our film. we came to realisation that our initial story idea would not fit our free time, as it was to be done outside of sixthform and in the dark. we changed the story line to a more suitable one where we could film during school hours, inside school and during daylight. We found our new storyline was more effective and easier to manage. We also created a new story board, added a new character (see future posts) but kept our three main characters (Marcus, Denzel and Katrina).

This is the final page of our storyboard. During scenes 19-24 is where the audience will recognise that its a thriller.

During scenes 13-18 the story starts to contrast with the title 'Sins Of Lust'. different camera shots are used and suspense starts to build greater.

Scenes 7-12 are mainly leading to the introductions of the character marcus. This is when the story starts making more sense.

Our first page of our story board includes charatcers katrina and denzel, initially this allowed us to begin to think of different camera shots we thought would be best to use for certain scenes.

We have come up with a detailed storyboard, this will help us a great deal when it comes to filming. It will guide us step by step during the shooting of our scenes, it also gave us a rough idea of how to make sure our thriller opening is 2 minutes long.

Todorov

Todorov suggested that conventional narratives are structured in five stages:
- A state of equilibrium at the outset.
- A disruption of the equilibrium by some action.
- A recognition that there has been a disruption.
- An attempt to repair the disruption. 
- A reinstatement of the equilibrium.
This type of narrative structure is very familiar to us and can be applied to many ‘mainstream’film  narratives.

Actor

Alpha Barrie - Denzel.
Alpha Barrie will be playing the role of Denzel as he has vast acting experience. He is also young and relates to our target audience which will gain the attention of our target audience across the globe. He has the attributes to fufil playing the role of Denzel.

Actress

Thuraya Abdull Radha - Katrina
Like Omar, Thuraya has similarities with her own character Katrina and has plenty of attributes the contribute to presenting Katrina. With Katrina, our company have subverted the conventions as normally in romantic thrillers the girl in the film who goes to meet the guy immediately falls in love, but in our film she sets up Marcus to get killed by Denzel. Thuraya is young and urban woman which is one of the important elements needed because Katrina is young and we need her to relate to our target audience to engage with them for them to understand the narrative. Thuraya also has experience of acting and we are confident that she can fufil the attributes to act the role of Katrina.

Actors

Omar Reeves - Denzel
Our production company chose Omar Reeves to act as Denzel because we agreed that their are similarities between Denzel and Omar. He is young which is very important because the audience will recognise that he is very young and relates to our target audience. It will attract them to watch the film as they will be intrigued about what the film is about. Because there are similarities between Omar and Denzel, it is an advantage because Omar will be able to exceed in portraying Denzel in a sinister and evil way to the audience and this is what we want in order for the audience to gain critical understanding of the character.

Me and my group are now ready to start filming. We plan to start shooting our first scene on thursday, we will meet around 5pm at the location of filming.

The thriller is going to be set in and around Rosehill, the setting is going to be at night as this will add suspense and will look greater on screen.
The attire throughout the thriller will be an urban London theme as the characters will all be dressed accordingly.
Denzel - Wearing mostly black, jacket, jeans, trainers.
Katrina - Wearing a mixture with black involved, jacket, leggings, trainers; we want her to have a slight sex appeal to her attire to add a dynamic to the thriller
Marcus - Similar to Denzel, black jacket, jeans, trainers

The extras in the thriller are going to be dressed like Denzel and Marcus (the main male characters).

Thriller Research, Mise-en-Scene, Subgenres, Target Audience

Mise-en-Scènecontains a few important elements which help add thriller to films and also
help to add suspense as well. Lighting

such as colour design has to be dark to help give the film a gloomy mood and helps to make the audience feel more suspense

towards the film. Another thing which also makes the opening off a thriller stick to its thrilling genre is props, as in thriller films there is

a lot of sharp objects and weapons like glass, knives, guns etc...

The set design/ location also helps the genre of the film stick to thriller, as the right set/location such as a gloomy warehouse or dark

woods give a thrilling film as it shows mystery and suspense/tension towards the audience.

Common subgenres are psychological thrillers, supernatural thrillers, crime thrillers and mystery thrillers. After the

assassination of President Kennedy, the political thriller genre became very popular. Another common subgenre of thriller

is the spy genre which deals with fictional espionage.

The target audience of many thrillers usually consists of adults. This is because it might include a lot of violence and some

psychological issues that can be disturbing for younger audiences - especially in psychological thrillers - as well as some thrillers are

more intellectually demanding. The genre is slightly male skewed, although the target audience consistsof Men (51%) and women

(49%) . However, different sub-genres have different target audiences, this is key as the various sub-genres will appeal to different

people. Thrillers are generally particularly popular with the under 25's .

 we will be using a shot reverse shot for alot of our scenes. This is a prime example of how our shot reverse shot will look like.

We have individually researched different camera shots and adapted them to fit in with our initial ideas. As a group we have put our thoughts and ideas together and have come up with an successful overall idea. We are at the point where we know exactly what to do when starting the partical part of our project.

The Close Up Shot from 0.20 - 0.24 allows the audience to read the face expressions of the Dark Knight. The shot gives the opportunity to read the Dark Knight's face expressions by focusing on his face and they edited the shot by using depth of field so that the background does not distract the focus of the Dark Knight's face.

We have three music features in our thriller, we picked and delegated them to add dynamics and an edgy effect to the scenes. The music is only going to be played for a short period of time .

Short Class Task

Spider diagram of one of our characters (Katrina) personality and involvement in our thriller opening. This task was key to getting a greater understanding of the roles and backgrounds of our characters.

Thought Process

Our Initial Ideas was related to London based films and series such as Kidulthood, Adulthood and Top Boy. We had intial ideas from these productions because they all have relevance to aspects of society that take place in particularly gang culture and a lot of teenagers in London. We used some ideas and own experience of our own to help contribute to the concept to the opening of our two minute opening. We have tried to keep our thriller opening original and I believe we have put our own spin on various movies to create a 'thrilling' display of scenes

The long shot from 0.00 - 0.05 enables the audience to look at the surroundings of the characters and to see the big stack of money. It is effective because the big stack of money emphasise the power of the Joker and his power is reinforced with Lyle at the top of the stack with his mouth taped and hands tied behind his back. Our company want to use this long shot to show Denzel's power over Marcus when he and a gang of youths surround Marcus. The long shot will display Marcus as weak and notably the damsel in distress.

 

Camera Shots - The Two Shot

This is a two shot from the film You Got Served. Look here how the two shot is establishing the relationship between both characters to the audience. Their relationship is presented clearly to the audience because the audience can see the face expressions and the body language between both characters which clearly shows that they are a couple. Trillin Tv looks to use this two in our film to establish the relationship between Denzel and Katrina as it is effective and clear to the audience.

Our production company chose to use the tracking shot for this scene to keep up with the action with Katrina. We also chose this shot to present the dialogue to the audience while she is on the phone to Denzel and the shot will be moving at a fast-walking pace to build the suspense within the scene.

For this scene who chose a long shot because we want to show that Marcus is being surrounded by a group of youths including Denzel. It will also build the tension and suspense within the scene and spread amongst the audience by having a long shot for this scene. It will also show the surroundings of Marcus, the dark ally, shows Marcus isolated and very weak.

Snippets Of Our Storyboard

Our production company firstly thought we should use a mid shot in this scene, but we all agreed that we should use a close up shot for this scene because we want to show Katrina's face expression to the audience when Denzel says 'Do the Job' as she is worried about what Denzel will do to her if she messes up this 'job.' The shot will reveal that Katrina is worried which will also have a impact on the audience as they will feel the same feelings as Katrina which will build tension in the film.

Snippets Of Our Storyboard

We have used this Two Shot for this scene to present the relationship between both Denzel and Katrina to the audience. Dialogue is included in the scene between Denzel and Katrina which will give the audience a incite about the characters. The scene is going to be shot in a ally way because a dark ally conforms to the convention of a thriller and we hope to build the same suspense of a thriller in this scene.

Camera Shots - Mid Shot

The 3 Mid-Shots used from 0.05 - 0.10 are the shots our company intend to use in our two minute thriller. These mid shots work effectively because it causes tension between the characters, establishes the relationship between them both and the audience also feels the tension of the characters as well. The mid shot draws the audience into the face expressions of both characters to present their feelings towards each other. Our company wants to use these three mid shots to create tension between Marcus and another character in one of our scenes.

Non-Diagetic Sound

This is one of the soundtracks we are going to use in our opening two minute scene. Our production company chose this song as part of our soundtrack because it is typical of a thriller as it builds suspense within the scene and amongst the audience. The soundtrack adds tension and fear to my narrative because it is sinister and as it is sinister the audience will feel that something terrible is going to happen in the scene.

Props & Costume

The Joker’s wears his face paint throughout the movie to show that he is insane and that it suits his character ‘The Joker.’ The purple suit presents his unique character, shows the audience that he is very different villain to the past villains in other superhero thrillers. The gloves and the knife show that he is a vicious serial killer and shows violence towards his victims. The Joker’s costume and props all conform to the convention of the thriller because all the elements contribute to the joker have a very scary presence about him which conforms to the convention of the thriller.

Thriller Conventions - The Dark Knight

The Narrative is atypical because firstly, the damsel in distress in the film dies and usually the damsel in distress is always saved by the superhero. Secondly, Batman is looked at as a villain at times during the film where as we the audience look at him as a hero. At the end of the film he takes blame for all the chaos caused by Harvey Dent and the Joker which makes Gotham look at Batman as the villain. The Propps narrative theorist idea where you have the hero (Batman), the villain (the Joker), the helper (Alfred) and the damsel in distress (Kate) has influenced the narrative of the movie. Also, Todorov’s theory comes links in with the Dark Knight because it is Batman who ends all the chaos caused by the Joker and saves the day.

 

The Dark Knight OST 1 Why So Serious?

One of the conventions is that tense music can build up the suspense in a situation in a thriller which would lead to action. This soundtrack from the Dark Knight creates suspense in selected scenes by the director in the film. This soundtrack is mostly used in Scenes the Joker is in. Our production company look to use soundtracks to build suspense within the scenes.

A Two shot is often used to establish the relationship between characters.

The two shot from 2.15 - 2.22 is a two shot from The Dark Knight, the shot establishes the relationship between both the characters. In this shot you can clearly see the relationship between them both and as you can see Batman is showing towards the Joker which shows to the audience Batman's hatred towards him. Camera Angles are one of the conventions that conforms to a thriller as it can establish the atmosphere or the relationship between characters.
